Cost of Living Crisis
With many people struggling with the cost-of-living crisis, Michael Gove has hinted there may be some help on the way, stating there may be 'targeted support' for families and others who are struggling. While there was little more detail when discussing the situation on the Sunday With Laura Kuensberg programme, there was the hint of 'some' help and that there were a range of options being considered.
The Levelling Up secretary stated he couldn't "anticipate specific support" but there are "are people in all sorts of difficult economic circumstances.”
The Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt will release his Autumn Statement on November 17th, when we expect there will be further clarification. However, although there may be some help for tenants, it is unlikely to alleviate any of the major issues created by this crises in terms of increasing energy bills and other prices due to rising inflation, increasing rents and reduction in the number of properties available to rent.
The Government has stated there are 'difficult decisions' to be made so expect a raft of stealth and other tax increases along with cuts to many public services.
It can only be hoped that those in most need receive the help they require, whether that be tenants, landlords or the general public at large. Of course, there is a common misconception that all landlords are wealthy and maybe they don't require the same support. However, many landlord own a single property advertising rooms in there own house or one other to generate some income. they rely on this income as much as the next person. Recent increases in Interest rates along with the cost of living increases felt by everybody, affects most landlords in the same way.
This is why we call for help across the board for those most in need. Increased costs for Landlords could be the difference between keeping a rental property and it being sold or repossessed, reducing rental stock further and increasing the demand and putting further pressure on rents so this affects all renters and landlords alike.
